Time is an abstraction and, as such, materialising
it is problematic. We try to makes us question our
understanding of time. Is time something you can
possess? If not, why do we say we have time, or that
we lose time? Augustine of Hippo maintained that,
even though we all know what time is, we would have
trouble explaining it. We perceive time as something
that passes, as a linear sequence of future instants
that occur during a present moment, before immediately slipping into the past.
In the ontological tradition, priority has been
placed on time as presence; a time that exists when
it is available.
